Sorry! All the cabins at
Ohana have been reserved. A few of the platform tents at the
camp are still available, however, or see here
for other lodging options.
There are 18 cabins at the camp
where all the wedding events will be held. Each cabin has from one to
four bedrooms and sleeps from 2 to 10 people in bunk and/or twin
beds. The cabins are equipped with a kitchen (including basic pots
and dishes); a living room with stone fireplace (firewood is
supplied); a bathroom (with shower); and a porch from which to enjoy
the sylvan setting. Here are some photos
of the camp, including the inside and outside of a few cabins so you
can see what they're like.
The cabins are rustic but very attractive—decorated with
patchwork quilts, twig and wicker furniture, and antique botanical
prints. Sheets, blankets, and towels are supplied, though you'll
have to make your own bed. A few other notes, in the interest of
full disclosure: The cabins are uninsulated and unheated (except for
the fireplace). There are no phones or TVs, and there is no cellular
service in the vicinity of the camp (just to prove you're really in
rural Vermont!). There is also no food service
there; you'll need to either use your cabin's kitchen or drive to a
restaurant. (In case you go to the Ohana website and notice the
mention that guests who stay in the cabins are required to take
their meals in the Ohana dining hall -- this does not pertain to our
weekend but only to events in future years. For events that were
booked for this year, they planned not to have the kitchen running
after the camp season ends.)
But you won't need to drive to the wedding events, and abundant
outdoor activities are right at hand—a waterfront for swimming and
boating (including use of the camp's sailboats, rowboats, canoes,
and kayaks), tennis courts (bring your own rackets), basketball and
volleyball courts, and a horseshoe pitch. Back roads for walking or
biking and trails for hiking abound around the camp's 100 rural
acres. As an added bonus, Nate and Jo have agreed to lead nightly
sing-alongs around the campfire! A cabin site map is below, or you
can open a printable PDF (the PDF
is probably easier to read, but you can get a general idea of the
layout from the map below).
The rate is $45 per person a night (with no charge for children
under 3). Pets are not allowed. To reserve a cabin call the number
above; the phone will be answered "Hulbert Outdoor Center," just in
case you wonder if you've reached the right place. There is no cut-off date for this
option—we have the exclusive use of the site for the wedding
period—but we expect the cabins to be reserved quickly.
And for the really hardy, there are also 6 platform tents at the
camp (their location is noted on the site map), with 4 twin beds
in each tent. The tents are equipped with screening, electricity,
open shelving, and a small covered porch. They are clustered near a
central bathhouse and a common room with a fieldstone fireplace. The rate for the tents is $15 per person a
night.
The other lodging option is reserving a room at a
local hotel, but that option does not
include complimentary marshmallows for roasting.
